MP's junior docs reject appeal to end strike

Bhopal, May 23 (UNI) Rejecting the Centre's appeal to report for duty, medical colleges' junior doctors are continuing their strike while pro-reservation medicos also staged a demonstration here today and submitted a memorandum to Governor Balram Jakhar.

''In view of the administration's warning to physicians, a junior doctors delegation appeared before the council and rejected the appeal to end the strike against OBC reservation in higher education institutions,'' said Hamidia Hospital Dean Nirbhay Srivastava.

The hospital's normal functioning was affected though emergency services improved due to more than 70 reserved category doctors returning to work.

''Four medicos observed a relay hunger strike here today and ran a parallel OPD. Ayurvedic medical colleges' junior physicians kept their institutions closed today as well,'' Madhya Pradesh Junior Doctors' Association spokesman Amit Tyagi said.

Dr Ashutosh Dixit, who was on hunger strike, suffered giddiness last night and was provided treatment.

The agitating medicos were yet to receive any notice from the hospital administration. A rally would be organised here on May 25.

On the other hand, the newly-constituted 'Fight for Right Association' office-bearer Chandrashekhar said, ''Reserved category doctors staged a demonstration at Roshanpura today and submitted a memorandum to Dr Jakhar.

Junior medicos remained on strike in colleges at Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Rewa.
