K'taka Info dept concerned over misuse of Press stickers

Madikeri, May 23 (UNI) The Karnataka Information Department is planning to issue official Press stickers to avoid misuse of the sign by vested interests, Information Commissioner K V R Tagore has informed.

Talking to reporters after attending the State Accreditation Committee meeting here, he said it had come to the notice of the department that the Press sticker was misued for various purposes, including transport of smuggled goods.

He said the department was contemplating issuance of official stickers with the help of the Accreditation Committee and the police and transport departments.

He said to regularise the system, a detail circular would be sent to various departments. Further letters would be sent to editors of all media houses to provide a list of authorised vehicles assigned to carry newspapers and staff.

Mr Tagore said action would be taken against journalists misusing accreditation cards.
