K'taka earns over Rs 3,400 cr from arrack transactions
Madikeri, May 23 (UNI) The Karnakaka Government has earned over Rs 3,400 crore in arrack transactions during 2005-06, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa informed today.
Talking to reporters after attending a function near Virajpet, he said the revenue was expected to increase in future with proper measures initiated to stop illicit dealings.
He said Rs 1.75 crore had been released for the overall development of Kodagu, Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Virajpet and Somwarpet towns.
Earlier, residents of Virajpet staged a demonstration in protest against the transfer of local Sub Inspector of Police Santosh.
They alleged that Mr Basavaraju, MLA, was responsible for the transfer of Mr Santhosh who was doing a good job in the area.
They also made a vain bid to stop Mr Yediyurappa's car to complain about Mr Basavaraju. Enraged residents later dispersed after shouting slogans against Mr Yediyurappa and Mr Basavaraju.
