Kargil-Padum road reopens after six winter months
Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) The 240-km-long Kargil-Padum road in the desert region of Ladakh reopened for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for six winter months due to heavy snowfall.
An official spokesman said the 240 km road remained under snow during the winter months because of heavy snowfall.
However, the Mechanical Division of Kargil pressed into service labourers and dozers to clear the accumulated snow on the road, lifeline for a number of far flung villages.
Executive Councilor (Tourism) Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil Sonam Namgyal and Deputy Commissioner, Kargil Kachoo Isfandyar Khan accompanied by a number of senior officers also took stock of the condition of Kargil-Zanskar road on the spot at Penzela.
