Four BJP MPs quit Privilege Committee

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) Four BJP members of the Privilege Committee of the Lok Sabha today resigned membership of the panel after the House passed a motion admonishing former Secretary General Subhash C Kashyap for alleged 'misconduct', alleging that the step was against established democratic values and the traditions of Parliamentary proceedings.

The four MPs, who have resigned their Committee membership, are -- Mr Kishan Singh Sangwan, Mr Rajendra Sinh Rana, Mr Ananth Kumar Hegde and Mr Virendra Kumar.

In their letter to the Speaker, copies of which were released to the press, the members said they were resigning protesting the report submitted by the Chairman to Parliament against Dr Kashyap.

''We have already asked the Chairman to withdraw the report sent to the House. We are surprised to see that inspite of accepting our request the report was hurriedly and without notice placed on the LS agenda, and was passed without discussion and without giving any chance to us,'' they said.

''Therefore, in protest we hereby submit our resignations to your goodself and request that they should be accepted immediately, '' the MPs said.
