Five killed and eight injured as temple arch collapses

Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, May 23 (UNI) Five persons were killed and eight others injured when a temple arch under construction suddenly collapsed near Ongole Bypass road today.

About 15 construction workers were on duty near the arch of Chennakeshwaswamy temple. Pillars were raised and slab was laid a month ago, according to police.

The deceased were identified as G Anjaneyulu (40) his wife G Sunanda (33), G Vijayamma (28), K Ragamma (40) of Kapurolu village in Ongole mandal and D Mastan Reddy (40) of Ongole.

The injured were identified as G Subashini, G Malleshwari, Rageswari of Kapurolu village and Ramulu, G Rama Devi, V Anjaneyulu and Chiranjeevi of Ongole. One person was yet to be identified.

Prakasham District Collector B Uday Lakshmi and Superintendent of police N Balasubramanyam visited the scene and took stock of the situation.
