Fifth unit of RAPP to be operational from March next year
Kota, May 23 (UNI) The 220 megawatt (MW) fifth unit of Rawatbhata Atomic Power Project (RAPP) is expected to be operational from March next year.
The fifth unit is under construction now. According to RAPP sources, the unit will start operating from March next year.
The sources also informed that work on the 220 MW sixth unit is also progressing rapidly. About 75 per cent work of the unit is already over and this unit will be operational from March 2008.
Around Rs 3,072 crore are expected to be spent on these two units but since they will become operational before time, there is bound to be reduction in the expenses.
Sources said once these two units become operational, around 1080 MW power is expected to be generated from RAPP.
The first unit is not operational now, the second unit produces 200 MW, the third and fourth unit generates 220 MW.
Last year the Central Government had cleared the construction of 700 MW seventh and eighth unit.
