Ex-army men battalion needs to check Maoist violence - Razi

Ranchi, May 23 (UNI) Jharkhand Governor Syed Shibtey Razi today emphasised the need for formation of an ex-army men battalion to check Maoist violence in the state.

The Governor said the battalion could also be used during natural calamities.

Addressing a highlevel meeting attended by senior state government officials, among others, held for the army welfare at Raj Bhavan here, he said the people had great respect for army and they would be remembered for their sacrifices.

There were about 20,000 ex-army men in the state and they should be used for maintaing peace, he said.

The meeting also adopted a resolution urging the government to grant Rs five crores towards its welfare fund.
