Duggal reviews security ahead of Srinagar round-table

Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) A day ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's second round-table conference beginning here, Union Home Secretary V K Duggal today reviewed the security situation in the Kashmir valley, particlulary in the wake of a fidayeen attack on a Congress rally on May 21 and four grenade blasts yesterday.

Sources said Mr Duggal, who arrived here this afternoon, was briefed about the security situation in the Valley by state Director General Police (DGP) Gopal Sharma besides senior Army, paramilitary and intelligence officials.

The Union Home Secretary also visited Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, here to inquire about the health condition of Inspector General Police (IGP), Kashmir range K Rajendra Kumar.

Mr Kumar was seriously wounded in the fidayeen attack on the public meeting organised by the Congress to mark the 15th death anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Sher-i-Kashmir Municipal Park here on Sunday in which seven people, including two militants, were killed and several others wounded.
