Don't miss the golden opportunity: NC to Mirwaiz

Srinagar, May 23: The main opposition National Conference (NC) today urged Hurriyat leaders not to miss the golden opportunity by refusing participation in the second round-table conference and make its agenda known to the world.

In a statement here, NC Provincial President Mehboob Beg said the people of Kashmir have been subjected to uncertainties and those responsible should not shy away.

Dr Beg asked moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to be satisfied with the present situation and contribute something positive for better future of the state.

Commenting on recent remarks of the Mirwaiz that he cannot sit with the NC in the round-table conference, Dr Beg said the whole world was aware and the history witness to the fact that the party leadership has suffered all along, but at no stage were the people allowed to suffer.

''Immediate need of the hour is to stop bloodshed, which cannot materialise by resorting to the dichotomoical approach,'' he added.

Dr Beg said those talking of Jammu and Kashmir's merger with Pakistan were now meeting the Indian Prime Minister privately for restoration of autonomy, an agenda pursued by the NC leadership.

''It is the combined duty of all in the state and the Centre to carry forward the dialogue process to its logical conclusion so that the Kashmir issue is resolved,'' he added.
