Dadasaheb Phalke awardee dies
Kolkata, May 23 (UNI) Dadasaheb Phalke award winner producer Parimal Kumar Sarkar died at a private hospital here today. He was 83 and a bachelor.
A five-time President of Eastern India Motion Pictures Association (EIMPA), Mr.Sarkar was a film producer, distributor and exhibitor. He owned the National Movie Company.
Mr.Sarkar began his career in the fifties and produced many films, including 'Bodhu', 'Mahatirtha Kalighat', 'Nirjan Saikate' and 'Uttarmegh'.
A host of film personalities thronged the hospital and his residence at Howrah to pay last respect to the departed soul.
The film producers and distributors offices remained closed today.
