Cool morning greets Delhiites after night rain
New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) Rains early morning brought down temperature by five degrees Celsius in the national capital.
Pleasant weather and cool breeze greeted the people in the morning with 22.9 mm rainfall recorded between 0515 to 0550 hrs this morning.
It brought down the mercury to 19 degrees, five degrees down from yesterday's 23.8 and eight degrees lower than the temperature (27 degrees) normally expected at this time, weather office said.
The rain was due to upper air cyclonic system stationed over Eastern Rajasthan and Southern Punjab.
However, cloud cover enveloped Delhi skyline most of yesterday with the maximum temperature dropping to 35.8 degrees, nearly five degrees below normal.
Delhi had been experiencing pleasant weather over the last one week, after several weeks of scorching heat which saw day temperature hovering around 40 degrees.
The cool climes were likely to persist for another day or two with the weather office forecasting a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain and thundershowers accompanied by squall in some areas.
On Friday last, squall with winds up to 62 kmph brought down temperature by eight degrees in the capital after early morning rains had lowered the mercury by two degrees.
This was followed by rain which lashed the national capital on Saturday evening. The rain brought the maximum temperature down to 37.6 degrees Celsius, about three degrees below recorded during this time of year, while the minimum was 22.1 degrees, five degrees below normal.
Temperature in city had touched the season's highest of 44.5 degrees on May 7.
