CBSE Results: Girls outshine boys; Chennai on top
New Delhi, May 23: Girls once again outshone boys in the Central Board of Secondary Education Class XII examination results announced this morning.
Even as the total pass percentage increased by more than one per cent from last year and stood at 79.55 per cent this year, girls collectively secured a pass percentage of 84.41 per cent while the boys had a pass percentage of 75.93 per cent -- a gap of 8.5 per cent in favour of the girls, CBSE Chairperson Ashok Ganguly said here.
The gap had increased from last year which was six per cent.
Among the regions, Chennai earned the first position with a pass percentage of 91.46 per cent, Ajmer came next followed by Chandigarh, Delhi, Allahabad and Guwahati.
Kendriya Vidyalayas had the best results among schools with a pass percentage of 92.89 per cent follwed by Jawahar Narvodaya Vidyalayas, private public schools came third.
61 foreign schools whose results were declared along with the Delhi region had a pass percentage of 93.45 per cent.
The national capital students had a pass percentage of 79.16 per cent that was up by 1.55 per cent from last year and girls fared better with a pass percentage of 83.51 per cent compared to 75.12 per cent of the boys -- again a gap of eight per cent.
Government schools had something to cheer about with their pass percentage increasing to 78.05 per cent from 76.44 per cent last year -- up by 1.61 per cent.
The results are available on the board's website -- www.cbse.nic.in and www.results.nic.in -- besides through the Intercative Voice Response System (91-11-24357270 Delhi, 95-11-24357270 NCR and 011-24357270 rest of the country) and SMS (CBSE12 rollno, send to 2001 for MTNL Delhi/Mumbai students and CBSE12 rollno, send to 6666 for BSNL students for rest of the country).
More than 4.5 lakh students, including over 1.9 lakh girls, had appeared for the Class XII exams in March this year.
