BJP MPs for FM's resignation
New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) BJP MPs today asked the party high command to seek the resignation of Finance Minister P Chidambaram for the fall in the stock market index and the confusion he had created by his flip-flop statements on the circular on Central Board for Direct Taxes.
BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra told newspersons it was important that the normalcy in the stock market was brought back to protect huge investments belonging to small investors. Since May 15, the sensex had fallen by over 1000 points leading to panic among the investors.
The demand of the BJP comes on the last day of the Parliament Session.
The party said it would oppose the government's move to allow investments in Retail Sector because it would throw out the small traders.
Mr Malhotra said the UPA government had not done anything good in its two-year rule. On the other hand, the law and order situation had taken a severe beating due to the soft attitude towards terrorism and its perpetrators by the government.
Corruption, he said, was all pervasive and the farmers, bereft of opportunities to repay loans, were committing suicides. Terrorism had gained an upper hand for which the people and the government should be prepared and development had taken a back seat. UNI M CN PK DS1300
