Bheem Award function postponed
Chandigarh, May 23 (UNI) The Haryana Government has again postponed the Bheem Award function, scheduled for May 25, according to a communication released by the Raj Bhawan.
The function to honour five outstanding state sportspersons was originally for April 5. However, it was postponed due to the death of former Chief Ministrer Bansi Lal and visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Haryana Sports Department has selected Jasjeet Kaur (hockey) from Shahbad, Sunil Kumar (athletics) from Mahendergarh, Sanjay Kumar (volleyball) from Panchkula and Archana (judo) from Hisar for the Bheem award for their outstanding performance at the international level.
The recepient is entitled to a cash incentive of Rs one lakh, a trophy and a citation.
The Haryana Government was also scheduled to distribute cash awards among top 30 sportspersons of the state, who have won medals at the national and international competitions, at the annual function.
Hockey girls, who were members of the Indian junior team, were also to be handed over cheques of Rs 50,000 each. Meanwhile,Gold medallist in the Asian Wrestling Championship Geetika Jhakar has been selected to receive a cheque for Rs one lakh.
