Anil Kapoor lends support to Universal birth registration campaign

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) He is one actor who has shied away from associating himself with a social cause during his more than two decade-long film career even as stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham, Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty have lend their mite for many a social campaign like fight against polio, anti-AIDS campaign and stopping cruelty against animals.

In his first association with a social cause, veteran actor Anil Kapoor has pledged support to the universal birth registration campaign in India.

As part of his support to the UBR campaign by Plan India, a child centric development organisation, Anil Kapoor will participate in select UBR events, besides appearing for various television commercials supporting the campaign and for opportunities to raise awareness and visibility of the movement's mission.

Commenting on Anil Kapoor's association with UBR, Executive Director, Plan India, Bhagyashri Dengle said,''Anil Kapoor shares plan India's vision for bringing about a progressive change in the status of birth registration in India. Anil will bring about an immense amount of focus and attention with him. He sends the spotlight directly to the campaign, making its more effective and powerful. The UBR campaign is an excellent example of how effective celebrity partnership can assist in achieving social goals.'' Ms Dengle said Anil Kapoor's absolute and confirmed views made him very discerning of associating with any cause in the past.

''His participation in the campaign is a reflection of his beliefs in upholding the basic rights of a child - the right to a name, a legal identity and a nationality,''she said.
