Adequate train facilities for transporting Kashmir cherry: Lalu

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced that adequate measures has been taken for transportation of cherry fruit from Kashmir to Mumbai during the summer season.

Four trains, equipped with refrigerated vans, will transport 48 tonnes of the highly perishable fruit till July 15 to Mumbai.

Mr Prasad was apprising Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-din Soz, who had made a strong plea to the Railway Minister to ensure transportaion of Kashmir cherry to Mumbai via Amritsar.

Between May 15 and 31, eight tonnes of cherry from Kashmir will be transported while it will be 30 tonnes in June and another ten tonnes during the first fortnight of July.

Two senior officials of the Railway Board -- S B Ghosh Dastidar, Member (Traffic), and Northern Railway Chief Commercial Manager Kamlesh Gupta -- explained the details regarding the arrangement.

Mr Dastidar will also visit Amritsar to ensure proper implementation of the decisions taken by the Railways, Mr Prasad said.

Prof Soz was informed that Mr Bhullar, Traffic Manager, had ben asked to remain available at Amritsar to ensure proper implementation of the decision taken by the Railway Minister.
