3 OIL wells set afire
Guwahati, May 23 (UNI) Three abandoned wells of Oil India Limited (OIL) were today set ablaze, allegedly by agitating employees on contract, in the Digboi reserve forest of Tinsukia district.
The OIL sources said though none of the three wells had any strategic value, the OIL authorities were shocked by the severity of the sabotage.
The employees, demanding better pay package and perks, had clashed with security forces yesterday after altercation with the management.
All the wells immediately caught fire causing damage to some of the OIL properties inside the jungle.
No one has been arrested so far but the CISF have increased their presence throughout the OIL installation apprehending further sabotage by the contract laboureres.
