TRS chief meets PM on Telengana issue

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Union Labour Minister and Telangana Rashtriya Samti chief K Chandrashekhara Rao today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in an effort to elicit a promise on creation of Telangana.

The meeting comes in the wake of the recent meeting of the Group of Ministers headed by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, which remained 'inconclusive,' with one of the members declaring that further meetings are needed to reach a consensus.

Mr Rao did not disclose what transpired in the 10-minute-long meeting in the Prime Minister's chambers in the Parliament House.

The position of TRS has become very precarious as the UPA coalition has not made in progress on creation of a separate Telengana state, even in its two years in office after winning both the Parliament and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh promising to award statehood to the region. The TRS has walked out of the Andhra Pradesh Government, while continuing to be part of the UPA at the Centre. Mr Rao and Minister of State for Rural Development A Narendra are the two TRS ministers in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet.
