SC rejects Bail plea of Maxim editor in Khushboo case
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to grant anticipatory bail to the editor of English magazine ''Maxim'', Sunil Mehra, facing allegations of publishing obscene photographs of popular Tamil Nadu film actress Khushboo through superimposition.
A vacation bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice R V Raveendran today declined to entertain the petition filed by Mr Mehra challenging the Madras High Court order dismissing his petition for anticipatory bail.
Khushboo had filed a criminal complaint against Mehra for defaming her and damaging her reputation by publishing her photographs which were in fact not hers. The body was somebody else's and the face was that of the actress. The Trial Court had issued summons to Sunil Mehra who challenged the summon order and sought quashing of the complaint by filing a petition under section 482 CrPC in High Court.
The apex court directed him to approach the High Court as it was not inclined to entertain the petition for anticipatory bail.
