SC refuses petition on submarine batteries purchase

New Delhi, May 22: The Supreme Court today refused to list a petition challenging the government decision to place an order for purchase of eight submarine batteries worth Rs eleven crore each without inviting tenders.

A bench comprising Mr. Justice Arijit Pasayat and Mr. Justice R V Raveendran today declined to list the matter during vacation, saying there was no urgency.

The Court told the counsel of the petitioner that ''let the government go ahead and if there is something wrong we will examine it later.'' According to the petitioner, the government has already purchased three submarine batteries from a particular firm and was planning to place the order for eight more such batteries with the same firm without inviting tenders which showed lack of transparency in the deal.

The Delhi High Court had already dismissed the writ petition of the petitioner vide order dated May 5, 2006.
