Sahai is new IGP Kashmir, Rajendra declared out of danger
Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) Senior IPS officer S M Sahai has taken over as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir from Mr K Rajendra Kumar who was wounded in a fidayeen attack on a Congress rally here yesterday, official sources said today.
Prior to this, Mr Sahai was the IGP Crime.
Meanwhile, the doctors attending on Mr Kumar have declared him out of danger.
Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Director Dr Sheikh Jalal-ud-Din told UNI that Mr Kumar's condition was stable now and has now been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the multi-speciality hospital here.
Dr Jalal-ud-Din said the IGP had suffered bullet injuries in the right thigh.
''The right femur and his blood vessels were damaged due to the bullet. We had conducted the surgery at 2230 hrs last night only and shifted him to the ICU. Mr Kumar is responding positively to the treatment,'' he added.
The SKIMS Director said a special team of doctors from New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had arrived here last evening for consultations and opinion.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his predecessor Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and others visited SKIMS to enquire about the condition of Mr Kumar.
They spoke to his wife and other relatives and wished him a speedy recovery.
