Rupee falls to 45.75/78 USD as equity markets crash

Mumbai, May 22: The rupee fell sharply by 20 paise at 45.75/78 per US dollar as compared to the last close of 45.55/57 due to 1,100 points fall in the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), a forex dealer here said.

The Indian currency earlier opened six paise weaker at 45.6150/6400 per USD in the morning.

Stock market's benchmark index BSE Sensex fell below 10,000 mark falling by 1,100 points this morning leading to slide in the rupee.
