Quake of 3.7 magnitude in J&K; no loss reported

Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) An earthquake of slight intensity occurred in Jammu and Kashmir today, Met office said.

It said the quake, measuring 3.7 on the richter scale, occurred at 1401 hrs this afternoon.

It was epicentred at 34.3 degree North and 73.7 degree East near the Indo-Pakistan border.

The Met office said there were no reports of loss of life or property from the area.

The region has been experiencing a series of aftershocks after a massive earthquake wreaked death and destruction in Jammu and Kashmir and its neighbouring areas in Pakistan and Pakistan- occupied Kashmir (PoK) on October 8 last year, killing tens and thousands of people and rendering millions homeless.

More than 120 aftershocks, including 65 of moderate intensity, have been recorded till date since the 7.4 magnitude devastating earthquake struck on October 8 morning last year.
