Guwahati: Police lathi charge in OIL
Guwahati, May 22: Police today resorted to lathi charge and tear gas shelling following labour dispute in Oil India Limited (OIL) headquarters in Duliajan.
According to OIL sources, the trouble started when the contract labourers refused to heed the company's advice over the dispute. The labourers were called by the Regional Labour Commission (RLC) for a meeting here in a bid to end the stalemate.
The sources informed that there was an agreement that contract labourer service condition and pay structure would be changed after ten years and the next revision was due on 2007.
However, the labourers insisted they must have pay structures at par with OIL employees.
At least four persons received minor injuries and all of them were released after minor treatment.
