New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Parliament today adopted the National Institute of Fashion Technology Bill, 2006 to promote education and research in fashion technology with the Lok Sabha passing the Bill by a voice vote.

The Bill, which also allows the entry of three MPs on the Governing Body of NIFT, changes the definition of 'fashion' to include traditional crafts.

Under the new law, NIFT, which has seven campuses across the country, will be able to award degrees.

The Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha last week.

Introducing the Bill in the Lower House, Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela said if any state could offer proper facilities, his Ministry would consider opening more NIFT campuses.
