Bhubaneswar, May 22 (UNI) The Orissa government was seriously contemplating setting up a Health university in the state to provide a better medical education and management in the state.

A meeting, chaired by State Finance Minister P C Ghadei, today decided to constitute a three-member committee to expedite the matter and submit a report to the government within a month.

The proposal to have a separate Health University for the state was mooted a few years back when Mr Ghadei was holding the Health and Family Welfare Ministry portfolio, but the department did not succeed much in the project.

The new Committee comprising Director of Medical Education and Training, Additional Secretary, Finance, and a representative of the Orissa Medical Services Association (OMSA) will visit several states to study the working pattern of the Health University before submitting its report to the government, official sources said.

According to MrGhadei, funding for the Health University would not be a problem and there would be no additional burden on the state exchequer for establishing such university.

Orissa has now three government-run Medical Colleges in the state, while proposals for ten private Medical Colleges are pending before the government for clearance.
