Monitoring mechanism sought to control price rise
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) On the prevailing price situation in the country, Congress leader V Narayanasamy today demanded that with an aim to control the prices of essential commodities a monitoring mechanism should be in place.
Initiating the short duration discussion on rise in prices of essential commodities in the country, Mr Narayanasamy said there is a dire need of strengthening the public distribution system and more items should be added to the list of PDS so that common man should be able to get the things on cheaper prices.
He also pleaded that the farmers should be helped by providing subsidies.
Mr Narayanasamy further said hoarding of commodities results in artificial price rise and the common man has to face this brunt.
Participating in the discussion, former finance minister Yashwant Sinha said United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has failed on all fronts and the law and order situation has also worsened during the last two years, citing the examples of Doda killings and a terrorist attack in yesterday's Congress Rally in Srinagar.
He said only red (blood) is seen every where.
Mr Sinha said there is a very strong relation between the Congress and Inflation as whenever the Congress came to power, inflation rose and as compared during the period of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government it remained steady.
He said whenever prices of essential commodities like petroleum products, wheat, pulses and sugar increase, the worries of common man also increase accordingly.
Mr Sinha blamed the Government for maintaining artificial stability in the prices of petroleum prices, saying once the present session of Parliament is over, the prices of petroleum products will be increased.
He pointed out that when NDA was in power there was sufficient and comfortable stock position of foodgrains. But, despite that the present Government has decided to import wheat.
