Mizoram earns Rs 4.5 crore from VAT
Aizawl, May 22 : Mizoram today announced that the state revenue has increased by Rs 4.59 crore this year through Value Added Tax (VAT).
During a review meeting, Taxation Commissioner T B C Rozara said the total collection so far reached Rs 4,596 lakh, which overshot last year's collection by Rs 1274 lakhs.
He also added that with the aim to encourage entrepreneurs in the region, the state government had already exempted VAT for the local industrial units here.
The exemption period would be seven years, which would begin from the date of actual commercial production by the listed units, the commissoner said.
He also told his officers that priorities for 2006-07 would be in areas of building departmental structures, more efficient administrative set ups, better infrastructures and streamlined enforcement.
He said the field officers would need more feedbacks to work on these priorities and that more frequent officers' meetings would be conducted.
