Mirwaiz wounded in car accident in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 22: Moderate Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today suffered a minor injury when his vehicle met with an accident here, amalgam sources said.

However, the Mirwaiz arrived on time at the Hurriyat headquarters at Raj Bagh here to attend the crucial amalgam meeting called to decide its participation in the second round table conference on Kashmir to be chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on May 24-25.

The sources said the vehicle carrying the Hurriyat Chairman was on its way to the amalgam headquarters when a Maruti car tried to overtake it near Nishat Mughal Gardens on the city outskirts.

The driver lost the control of the vehicle and hit the pavement, resulting in a minor injury to the Mirwaiz.

The Hurriyat Chairman, who suffered an injury on his back, will be referred to doctors after the meeting.
