Left concerned over increase in prices of essential commodities
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Left parties today expressed serious concern over the sharp rise in prices of essential commodities over the past two-year period of the Dr Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government leading to a rise in the sufferings of the poor.
The matter was raised through calling attention By Basudeb Acharia (CPIM) under rule 193 for discussion.
Initiating the discussion, Mr Acharia request the Chair to direct the Government to accept the suggestions submitted by the left parties for reduction of various duties on petroleum products instead of going in for a fresh price hike to save the common man from its price spiral effect.
He also stressed the need for strengthening the public distribution system to put a check on the rise of essential commodities.
