India welcomes Al-Maliki government in Iraq
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) India today welcomed the formation of a new Government in Iraq, headed by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, and reiterated the willingness to continue assistance in the reconstruction of the war-torn country.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sent a message of congratulations to Mr Al-Maliki wishing him success in carrying out his new responsibilities and wishing the people of Iraq success in their efforts to bring peace, prosperity and stability in the country.
The Prime Minister also said India looked forward to further strengthening the traditionally close and friendly relations between the two peoples and countries in all fields.
Asserting that the new government in Iraq ''represents all sections of the Iraqi society,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said the Prime Minister had reiterated India's willingness to continue its assistance in the reconstruction of Iraq and to cooperate with the country in areas of mutual interest.
