Former SG's admonition tyrannical: BJP

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Expressing its concern over the report of Privilege Committee recommending admonition to former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash Kashyap for his comments on a TV channel discussion, the BJP today asked the Committee Chairman to recall its report because such harsh action was nothing but tyranny.

BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said four BJP MPs, who were members of the Privilege Committee, had written to the Chairman taking strong exception to the third report laid on the table of Parliament on May 19. The members were deeply distressed over the procedure adopted in arriving at the present recommendations.

He said the members were given the feeling that the recommendation was to treat the matter as closed with a caution to Dr Kashyap to be more careful in future. ''We had serious reservations even with this but since it involved Speaker, the BJP members chose not to prolong the matter unnecessarily,'' he added.

On May three, three MPs -- Rajdendra Sinh Rana, Anant Kumar Hegde and Virendra Kumar -- did not attend the meeting and only Mr Kishan Singh Sangwan participated it and was told that the matter was being closed. To our utter surprise and dismay, when the report was circulated last week, we found that the report originally circulated had been substantially changed and the matter is being opened and Dr Kashyap is being handed out deterrent punishment, he said.

''This is grossly unfair and contrary to well-established procedure of fair conduct in the proceedings of Privilege Committee.

We urge you to withdraw the said report and call for a fresh meeting and permit the members to record the strong dissent to the manner in which procedures are held,'' he said.

Mr Malhotra said similar letters were written to the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman expressing BJP's strong reservations.
