AP Govt to amend Registration Act

Hyderabad, May 22 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today decided to amend the Registration Act, to prohibit registration of properties belonging to government, religious or charitable institutions, as per High Court orders.

According to official sources, the Government would modify Section 22-A of the Act to define documents 'opposed to public policy'.

The draft bill for the purpose was approved by the Cabinet today for introducing in the Assembly.

The decisions had been taken in view of the Andhra Pradesh High Court striking down provisions of Section 22-A of the Registration Act, observing that documents opposed to public policy were not defined under the said section. This was based on a Supreme Court ruling in a case relating to the State of Rajasthan.
