Advocate arrested for torturing a minor tribal girl

Bhawanipatna, Orissa, May 22 (UNI) An advocate was today arrested and later sent to jail custody on charges of torturing a minor tribal girl working as a maid servant.

The advocate's wife was also absconding fearing arrest after the victim filed an FIR with the police station alleging physical torture.

According to the police, advocate Simachal Pattnaik and his wife Damayanti enraged over a petty matter, had beaten up the 12-year-old Sunita and poured hot ''dal'' on her body. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anybody.

The police, however, came to know about the incident and registred cases against the couple under various sections of the IPC besides SC/ST Atrocities Act and Juvenile Justice Act.
