100 Faculty positions vacant in DCE: Fatmi

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) As many as 100 positions are vacant in the prestigious Delhi College of Engineering as per the information provided in the Rajya Sabha today.

Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi said in a written reply that the sanctioned strength of faculty in DCE is 219, out of which 119 are in position.

According to AICTE, the approved intake of DCE including undergraduate and post graducate students is 2852. As per the AICTE norms the faculty requirement is 190 in the ratio of 1:15 of faculty to students.

As on April 1, 2006, total number of students in DCE was 2720 excluding post graduate and Ph.D.

The shortfall of faculty in different disciplines is being met by engaging Guest faculty from other organisations in the fields concerned.

Action to fill up the vacant posts of teachers has been initiated by UPSC--19 posts have already been advertised while 40 posts are expected to be advertised soon and remaining will follow, he said.

It is expected that majority of the posts shall be filled up by the end of current financial year, he added.
