Sonia Gandhi condemns Srinagar killing

New Delhi, May 21 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi today mourned those killed in the militant strike on a party rally in Srinagar, calling the attack ''an act of cowardice." ''However few they may be who are opposed to the process of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir, the people of the state will not succumb to them,'' she said in a message.

At least four civilians, two militants and a policeman were killed and 30 others wounded in a ''fidayeen (suicide)'' attack on the public meeting organised in Srinagar to mark the 15th death anniversary of late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi today.

Ms Gandhi has been in touch with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and CWC member in charge of J and K Ambika Soni.
