Oil tank explodes at Japan plant, no injuries

TOKYO, May 21: An oil tank exploded at a Toa Oil plant in the Japanese city of Kawasaki today, and fire officials said they were working to put out the blaze. There were no reports of injuries.

A police spokesman said the explosion blew the top off the tank and that smoke was rising from it, but it was not immediately clear how serious the fire was.

Police officials quoted by Kyodo news agency said that there appeared to be no danger of the fire spreading to nearby tanks, but no further details were available.

Company officials were not immediately available for comment and it was not clear what the impact would be on the plant's operations.
