It meet starts in Hubli, Karnataka CM to meet PM

Karnataka, May 21: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that he had sought an appointment with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss various developmental works pertaining to Karnataka. He was addressing a news conference after inaugurating the publicised 'Destination Hubli'-an IT investors' meet.

He accused the center for the 'step-motherly' attitude towards the state for many years. The state wanted to have a free and fair discussion with the Prime Minister so as to know why such a treatment was being meted out to Karnataka. The injustice being meted out to the state on each and every aspect would be discussed with Mr Singh, he said.
The union government neglected the appeal made by the state in regard to Kalasa-Bandura canal works and decided in favour of the Goa Government, he added.

Such an attitude of the Centre was not new and it had been happening for the last 50 years. The state government had already conveyed to the Centre its strong opposition to the constitution of the tribunal in regard to Kalasa-Bandura canal project

When asked whether the Centre was having such an attitude only against Karnataka or other states too, Mr Kumaraswamy replied that he was only concerned about Karnataka and not about other states'.

The chief minister said that his government had fulfiled the long-cherished dream of making Hubli-Dharwad the future destination for IT and tried to remove the feeling among people of north Karnataka that their region had been neglected.

The government was taking steps towards development of IT in this region and the Investors' meet was the first initiative in this direction. "Our government is fully committed to overall development of north Karnataka and we will provide all assistance to IT companies for setting up their units here," he said.
