Christian body opposes screening of 'Da Vinci '
Hyderabad, May 21 : All India Christian Council (AICC) AP Youth Wing and National Congress of Indian Christians (NCIC) today opposed the screening of the controversial English film 'The Da Vinci Code' in India and urged President Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Information Minister Priya Ranjan Das Munshi to take steps for banning the film.
AICC youth wing president M Praveen told the media that the film depicted Jesus Christ in bad light and hurt the sentiments of Christians.
''Film Director Ron Howard is trying to spread hatred against Christianity,'' he said.
AICC youth wing twin cities' President G Solomon Raju asked the state and Central governments to make all efforts to stop the screening of the film in the country.
He said the film should not be available in any form in the Indian market. ''We also demand the Centre not to permit any TV channel to show the movie clippings.'' NCIC youth wing president C A Daniel Adams strongly condemned the decision of Ms Sharmila Tagore, Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), for clearing the controversial film.
