Centre to release 10 cr for tourist destinations
Aizawl, May 21: The Union Ministry for Tourism has agreed to release about Rs 10 crores for the two new tourism destinations here in Mizoram.
This was assured by Union Minister of Tourism Ambika Soni during her recent meeting with state tourism minister Z H Ropuia at New Delhi.
Out of the total allocated funds, about Rs 4.99 and Rs 5.1 crore would be utilised for developing eco-tourism centre at Chalfilh and Chaltlang respectively, the officials sources here today informed.
The tourism department have also submitted a new proposal to the Centre for setting up a mega aero sports project here in the outskirts of the capital city during the meeting with the Union Minister.
Seeking help from the Centre, the state government has also planned to construct new multi-tech tourist lodges at Zokhawthar (Indo-Myanmar border), Sakawrdai, Khamrang, Tlabung, Kanhmun and Saichoo in the western belt of Mizoram at the cost of Rs 6.67 crores.
Apart from this the Centre also agreed to release the funds within short period for the proposal for the new flying club, where there would be a small 14-seater air-craft, which likely to be operational by next year to facilitate the travellers for an ariel-view of the state.
The state tourism department in collaboration with the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is also creating a tourist destination at Champhai at a cost of Rs 4.42 crore, a tourist circuit at Aizawl-Lungle (Phase I) at the cost of Rs 6.3 crore and another tourist circuit in northern Mizoram with Rs 7.8 crores investment, the officials added.
