UN envoy meets Myanmar's Suu Kyi - govt

YANGON, May 20: Senior UN official Ibrahim Gambari met detained Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi at a guest house in Yangon today during a visit to the military-run Southeast Asian nation, a government source said.

The meeting, which followed an audience with junta supremo Than Shwe, lasted about an hour. The source gave no further details.

Nobel peace laureate Suu Kyi has been in prison or under house arrest in the former Burma for the last three years, with her telephone disconnected and all visitors barred apart from her housemaid and doctor.
