Suspension of work in Kankinara Jute Mill

Barrackpore, May 20 (UNI) The management of Kankinara Jute Mill in the Barrackpore industrial area today declared suspension of work, rendering 4,500 regular and casual workers jobless.

This is the second such incident of closure within a span of two days after the Nafar Chand Jute Mill declared suspension of work yesterday.

The workers raised blockade on the Ghoshpara Road at Kankinara under Jagaddal police station in North 24 Parganas to vent their resentment.

After police removed the blockade, the workers rushed to the railway station and sat on the tracks causing disruption of train services in the main Sealdah-Ranaghat section of the Sealdah division of Eastern Railway for about an hour.

The management said drop in production and financial constraints were the reasons for the suspension of work.
