SJVNL generating more power than capacity

Shimla, May 20 (UNI) Public Sector Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) is generating more power than its capacity between April one and May 18 this fiscal, helping in tiding over the power crises in the northern states of the country, an official spokesman today said.

As against a capacity of 967 million units for the period, the SJVNL was generating 1,015 million units, exceeding its capacity by 48 million units.

The spokesman said the 1500 MW plant was generating 1,550 MW of power for shorter durations during the period.

The plant was generating 36 million units of power in all six 250 MW units, with the increase in the water discharge in the Satluj River from 335 cumecs on May five to 841 cumecs on May 17, he said.

The plant generated over 105 million units of power between May one and May 17 by producing 608 million units against a target of 503 million units.

The spokesman said maintenance of the machines and flushing of the dam was also undertaken on May 14 to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the grid.
