Manipur runs out of cooking gas

Imphal, May 20: People faced immense hardship as the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) sponsored economic blockade led to shortage of cooking gas in Manipur.

Trucks continued to remain stranded at the Manipur-Nagaland border after blockade began in May 16.

The ATSUM demanded appointment of teachers for the educational institutes in the hill areas and alleged that the government has failed to fulfill its demands.

The gas agencies have stopped normal distribution of cooking gase as supply was disrupted owing to the blockade.

Meanwhile state education minister L Nandakumar has appealed to the ATSUM to call off the blockade and assured to appoint teachers by June.

He further said about 1332 teachers, including 382 Science graduates, 500 arts and 150 primary teachers, would be appointed.

All teachers would be appointed for 85 days and another open test would be conducted to appoint teachers on permanent basis in June, he said.
