Govt prepared to face flood and draught : Bihar CM

Patna, May 20 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today assured that government was well prepared to face the drought and flood situation in the state.

Addressing a function, Mr Kumar said here that the state government was committed to evolving a lasting and viable solution to the problems of drought and flood.

He said interlinking of rivers of the state would go a long way in mitigating the sufferings of the people. A seminar on ''interlinking of rivers'' would be held here on May 24 to seek opinion of experts and people's representatives on the issue.

He said the state government would soon frame laws making it mandatory to make provision for recharging of water, use of quake -proof technology in the building constructions.

No permission would be granted for building constructions without adhering to these guidelines, he added.

Mr Kumar called upon people, NGOs and relief committees to come forward and work in co-ordination with the government to fight the natural calamities like flood and drought.

''Directions had already been issued to the concerned authorities to take required steps for tackling the flood and drought situations,'' he added.
