GoM conclusions conveyed to Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, May 20: Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee has conveyed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the conclusions of the Group of Ministers on reservation for backward class students, a source said this evening.

The issue has trigerred protests over possible loss of opportunity for general category students.

Mr Mukherjee met Prime Minister Singh during and after a Cabinet meeting last night, the source said.

The source did not spell out the conclusions beyond saying that the idea was to raise the number of college seats to accommodate reservation without hurting the prospects of general category students.

The details of the quantum of increase are to be worked out, the source said.
