Controversial Iraq interior min. to run finances

BAGHDAD, May 19 (Reuters) Bayan Jabor, a Shi'ite Islamist whose stewardship of Iraq's Interior Ministry has been marred by accusations of police death squads, is to be finance minister in the new government, senior political sources said today.

Jabor, a member of the powerful Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), is a civil engineer by training and had been tipped for the post. He is strongly disliked by US officials, who blame him for failing to rein in Shi'ite sectarian militias in the police and alienating Sunnis.
