Aslam Sher bays for Gill's blood

Indore, May 20 (UNI) Demanding IHF Chif K P S Gill's resignation from the post of selection committee chairman, former hockey olympian Aslam Sher Khan today said Punjab's monopoly over the game was resulting in neglect of other talents.

''Dr Gill has taken possession of the IHF for the past 12 years and the country notched up no achievement in the game during his tenure. He should leave the selection committee chairmanship to a specialist. Dr Gill's irrational decisions are jeopardising the Indian hockey,'' he told UNI here.

Last month, Khan quit as the committee's member and said a stifling atmosphere was the reason.

''Dr Gill maintained his influence by seating other retired police officers in state units. There is a need for an industrialist to occupy the IHF chief's post. In 1940s, late J R D Tata assumed the reins and I suggest the names of Mr Ratan Tata, Mr Mukesh Ambani and Mr Anil Ambani,'' he added.

Stressing on a top-class foreign coach for Olympics preparation, Khan pointed out that a foreign cricket coach led to the end of nepotism in that game, a develop professional approach and elp emerge positive results.

''In hockey, our former players cannot explain the intricacies of technique and strategy required on artificial turf,'' he felt.
