Apang inaugurates ADC headquarters

Itanagar, May 20: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang inaugurated the newly created Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) headquarters at Sinchung under West Kameng district yesterday amidst sporadic protests from All Hrusso (Aka) Socio Cultural Society (AHSCS).

The AHSCS had declared a two-day bandh in all Aka dominated areas from May 18 to protest the state government's move to create the ADC headquarters at Sinchung instead of Thrizino, as demanded. The bandh disrupted normal life but no untoward incident was reported.

Spelling out the importance of upgrading the present Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) headquarters to an ADC post, the Chief Minister said the area comprised large population surrounded by Army headquarters, which necessitate creation of high civilian post to have equal wavelength while dealing with the Army.

Pointing out that he had facilitated sanctioning of eight crore from Ministry of DoNER for development of road communication for the Aka dominated areas, particularly Palizi and Thrizino, Mr Apang expressed displeasure at the bandh call given by the AHSCS.

The Chief Minister further informed that the state government had already cleared creation of Bichom district with Thrizino as its headquarters. ''As creation of circle and district requires clearance from the Election Commission (EC), the proposal had been sent to the EC and is under process'', he added.

The AHSCS argued that by opening an independent ADC administration at Sinchung, the Jameri-Bhalukpong block would directly come under its jurisprudence. Thus ultimately through delimitation, Sinchung and Jameri-Bhalukpong would become a new Assembly constituency as the latter has enough population, that when added with Sinchung, would reach the 'magic' number needed for declaring an Assembly constituency.
